Visit by The Duke of Clarence

'The Royal Visit to South Wales 1890
The House Party, Glanusk Park, Breconshire.
September 18th, 1890'
Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery
The visit to Brecon by the Duke of Clarence in 1890 was a major event, and a cause of much celebration in the town. The Duke of Clarence, a grandson of Queen Victoria, was the elder son of the Prince of Wales and brother to George V. He died in January 1892 from pneumonia and influenza.
Above is a souvenir from the royal visit showing those in attendance at a house party in Brecon on September 18th, 1890. These include Lord and Lady Glanusk, the Mayor of Brecon Col. Morgan, and other local dignitaries.
