The Lives of John and Ann Bishop

Whilst on a trip to Brecon looking for the damaged tombstones from this case, instead we found the tombstone of John and Ann Bishop, and a memorial to Ann.

The gravestone of John and Ann Bishop. The gravestone of John and Ann Bishop.

"In loving memory of Ann the beloved wife of John Bishop (of this Parish) who departed this life May 12th 1915 aged 81 years.

Also of the above John Bishop who departed this life May 29th 1916 aged 81 years."

Standing immediately to the right of the gravestone, there is a memorial to Ann. She was obviously a well-loved and respected member of the church. The cross, once upright, has been broken off at the base and lies behind it.

"This cross was erected by the congregation of St. John's Church, Brecon in loving memory of Ann Bishop who died May 12th, 1915, aged 81 years, after a life of . . ." (the rest of inscription hidden under leafmould & foliage).

The tombstone and memorial are near the edge of the churchyard, facing towards their home, and under a tree.
