Workhouse Contracts

Services provided to the Union were subject to tendering rules. For food and clothing at Llanfyllin Workhouse, the list of agreed suppliers is very detailed:

Some clothing was also made for the workhouses, as can be seen from this shirt now in the collections of the Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery. In splendid condition, it dates from c1915. The fabric is very heavy - almost a lightweight burlap - but the shoulder and chest area is lined with cotton.
