Transport Roads in Brecon ![]() High Street, Brecon Powys County Archives Although the railways had become an increasingly quick and cheap form of transport, there was still plenty of work for those connected with road transport in 1891. This included people like Thomas Vaughan, who was employed as a road cleaner:
Or John Prosser who was a road labourer and lived in the Old Turnpike House. Turnpikes had been abolished on the creation of the County Councils in 1888; in the early years of their existence, councils were busy selling off turnpike houses.
