There was one china shop in Broad Street which was unoccupied at census time. This was listed in Sutton's Directory as William Williams, glass and china dealer and dealer in game, 3 Broad Street. He also ran a shop in New Road for less glamorous items - rag, rope, and marine store dealer.

The ironmongers' at number 10 was also run by a William Williams - probably the same entrepreneur.
